FAQ
Regulations & other information
Of course! Yvan Dubois still comes by with his ATV to supply the campers with wood, but he’s not always around. Since he’s spent his life in the wild, we don’t want to tie him up. So, if you want to be sure you can make a fire and not burn our furniture, bring your own wood. :-p
Yes!! You’re welcome to join us during bar and Barberousse Cantine opening hours (flexible schedule) if space and traffic allow. However, you must leave the site when the bar closes.
Please note that there may be an entry fee on the evenings of shows and events.
Yes. You can sleep in your car, no problem! To do so, you’ll need to see the camping package (if you’re not too fussy about where you’ll sleep) or the camper van package to ensure a spot facing the sea. Your car must be a standard size, such as a small van (Westfalia type) or any other vehicle no longer than 21 feet (or 6.4 m). We do not accept trailer-hitched accommodations (campers, fifth wheel trailers, etc.).
***We reserve the right to cancel or refuse access to any person(s) with a camping or camper van booking that includes a non-regulation vehicle.
If you don’t have a booking or don’t intend to sleep onsite, it is your responsibility to designate a driver early in the evening or to moderate your consumption in order to comply with the law on drinking and driving. Because, as Cayouche says, drinking and driving is a crime!
Otherwise, our security staff may ask you to pay for your accommodation or, if the campsite is full, direct you to a cab service.
Yes, however, we ask that dogs always, always, always be on a leash. What’s more, dogs are not allowed in any of the communal buildings, even the bar!
If you wish to sleep in indoor accommodation with your pet, please reserve a unit that accepts pets. You’ll find an icon on the booking form indicating whether or not pets are allowed.
Please read the booking policy to learn more about the rules regarding pets in accommodations.
Amenities & facilities
The Barberousse Canteen offers various snacks that you can enjoy on our large terrace. You can check the schedule and menu in the CANTINE BARBEROUSSE section.
We have a shared kitchen in the main building. It’s open every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for people staying with us in cabins, camper vans, and on our camp sites. People in private rooms and dormitories in the Chill Shack have access to a kitchen in their own building.
You can also pack a cooler, portable stove and other outdoor cooking essentials! We have outdoor sinks and a shelter for cooking on rainy days. You can also access our terrace for picnics. The site offers majestic spots to enjoy your meals. Watch out for the sand, it can ruin your paella or hot dog.
Of course! We provide pillows, pillowcases, sheets, blankets and towels. It’s even forbidden to use your own sheets, pillows or sleeping bags in our indoor accommodations.
For camping and camper van stays, you’ll need to bring your own bedding and towels
Since the end of the great yurt era, our dormitory offer has decreased, but not at the expense of comfort! We have four dormitory spots (mixed) available in the Chill Shack.
Our La Légria boutique offers our range of Sea Shack clothing, each piece more creative than the last. In our thrift store section, you’ll also find affordable costumes to enhance your Sea Shack experience.
Visitor profile
If you watched Sabrina the Teenage Witch, you’re more than welcome at the Sea Shack! If you watched Bewitched, you’ll also be welcomed with open arms, senior’s card or not.
Bookings must be made by a person aged 18 or over. All persons under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian or parent.
The cutest question on the list! If we had to define Sea Shack in a single word, it would certainly be UNIFYING.
At the Auberge Festive, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift would become best friends, while Donald Trump and Joe Biden would enjoy a rock-skipping session by the sea. Yep, we bring everyone together!
OF COURSE!!!! It’s an enriching and original environment for children, with all these beautiful people wandering all over the site. But we’re going to be honest with you, we don’t usually impose a curfew, and travellers may party all night long. That said, it’s no different than sleeping under coats at a family party.
***Children have access to the bar terrace (until 9 p.m.) if accompanied at all times by a legal guardian.

Whether you’re staying in a cabin, a room, a dormitory or a campsite, it’s always best to make a booking! While we’re at it, we suggest you plan your trip around the Gaspésie. Legend has it that sometimes, there’s only one spot left to sleep on the whole peninsula

So, this is the question we’re most often asked!
- We want to preserve the beach, the shoreline, the forest and our facilities
- We’ll keep you safe so you can keep the party going for a long time to come
- We want to offer you top-notch service so that you (and we) have the best possible memories
- Full disclosure: our toilets couldn’t survive more people ;).
Yeah, but… What’s one more? As we all know,” just one more” at Sea Shack is not a thing!
Our policies vary according to the type of accommodation, the season and the events taking place. That’s why we ask you to check them when you book online, or to refer to them in your confirmation e-mail. For more information, please see our BOOKING POLICY page.
Festivities & alcohol
Yes, it’s the most festive hostel in the world, but festive doesn’t mean decadent… We encourage everyone to celebrate in a healthy way, while respecting their own limits. Are you coming to party with your gang? This is the best place to do it! Remember, though, that you’re not the centre of the world, and that everyone’s Sea Shack experience is different. The motto is RESPECT for everyone. At the Sea Shack, we listen to each other, enjoying our own vibe and that of others! If you’re coming with your family, that’s fine, but the Sea Shack is not the place to come for the best night’s sleep!
Yes, but you should know that we offer local beers and a variety of cocktails at the Tiki-Bar, in the most enchanting surroundings. When you buy at our bar, you’re not only supporting the Sea Shack, you’re also supporting Gaspésie microbreweries and a local, independent economy that’s proud to be Quebecois.
Personal alcohol must be consumed on the beach or in your private accommodation. This privilege is granted only to people who are sleeping onsite.
We do everything we can to make your festive experience as safe as possible.
Auberge Festive Sea Shack is proud to be part of the pilot project called For Safe Party Spaces. The initiative aims to raise awareness through tools and protocols to fight sexual assault and involuntary intoxication at their events.
At Sea Shack, one thing is clear: there’s a zero-tolerance policy for violent behaviour?
In the event of aggression, we always have at least one employee onsite who is trained in such matters and who will be able to offer you a safe space, a sympathetic ear and the respect you deserve.
Shows & art
You bet! Our programming will be revealed on April 21, 2024, at 7 p.m. sharp.
What’s more, we’ve even got a few things scheduled for the winter. You can check out our shows and events in the SHOWS & FESTIVITIES section.
You can write to us at to send us your application.
Normally, we start recruiting in the fall and end with the launch of the program in the spring.
Our team works hard to offer a highly diversified program, and we’re always keen to make room for emerging artists. However, we receive a lot of requests and unfortunately, we can’t accommodate them all.
We don’t allow solicitation on the site, nor do we allow travelling salespeople who wish to sell the fruits of their labour.
Our store space is limited, and we’ve decided to reserve the privilege of consignment to our artist-craftsperson employees.
If you’re interested in working at the Sea Shack, please visit our Work With Us section. 🙂
Yes, it might be possible! You can write to the marketing and store manager to submit your idea:
All our Tattoo Tours are supervised and organized in advance. If you have such a project, you must submit it the same way as performing artists. You can send your request to

A reminder that all land in the Ruisseau-Castor area is privately owned. In order to maintain good relationships with our neighbours, and out of respect for them, we ask you to walk on the marked trails permitted for hiking. If in doubt, please ask hostel staff for directions.
We have SUP, snorkelling and fishing equipment. Sam, a.k.a. Captain Comet, is here to guide you to a safe environment.
The St. Lawrence River and the climate of the Gaspé Peninsula often present nasty surprises, and the elements can quickly change and deteriorate in the course of a single day. That’s why we can’t guarantee outings at all times.During your stay, keep an eye out for Sam and his scooter. You’ll find out when it’s time to go out on the water!
Work and volunteering
Normally, we hire more heavily in the winter to fill summer positions.
That said, we sometimes have vacancies during the year. You can send us your application at anytime!
You can also take a look at our current opening in the Work With Us section if there’s as specific type of job you are looking for.
