“Lionel KIZABA, singer-songwriter, Révélations Radio-Canada 2024-2025, multi-instrumentalist, and pioneer of Afro- Congolese electro music based in Montreal, has carved a unique musical path that takes his broad international audience on a journey into his Afrofuturist universe. With a fusion of French, English, Kikongo, and Lingala, his compositions transcend linguistic barriers. His album “Kizavibe” received multiple nominations in 2024 at the Juno Awards for Global Music Album of the Year, other awards include International Artist or Musical Group of the Year Dynastie, World Music Artist or Group of the Year Dynastie, Francophone Music Artist or Group of the Year Dynastie, and at Gamiq and ALBUM/EP WORLD.
In 2022, he embarked on his first tour in the United States, performing on the renowned main stage of the historic New Orleans Jazz Festival alongside iconic artists such as Lionel Richie, Ceelo Green, Charlie Wilson, and The Foo Fighters. His remarkable journey continued as he captivated audiences at prominent events such as the Louisiana International Festival, Africa Oyé Festival in England, Mapas in Spain, Circulart in Medellin, Colombia, Womad Chile, Mundial Montreal, M for Montreal, Seoul Music Week Korea, Global Toronto, and China.
Kizaba’s performances are enriched by collaborations with talented musicians from Cuba, Haiti, Côte d’Ivoire, and Quebec. Drawing inspiration from his Congolese upbringing, his shows showcase a diverse musical style. He cleverly weaves ancestral vocalizations with the vibrant sounds of Soukous-Congolese and Afrobeat, infused with an Afro-Punk philosophy in his Afrofuturist world. To provide a complete sensory experience, Kizaba’s stage productions integrate fascinating visuals influenced by traditional Congolese and African masks, creating a psychedelic ambiance.
